Reaching for the rain

Mesmerizing in the moss

Vertiginous visages

Lumbering upward in a slow and laborious lineage

Everything in between man.

Rough hewn with stone and shell and tooth,

With chainsaw and chisel.

Each of every part of what a man is –

Raven, orca, eagle, black bear, forebear, father, fool, hero, shaman, deadbeat, tyrant, trickster, friend and foe.

High man

Everything in between man.

–

Red cedar man,

Remaining and reminding for a while,

Left to rot in place even if loved dearly in its time.

Deterioration comes quickly, in less than a century and without apology,

As if only to affirm the nature of the world.
